Lakers are off the mark in 92-80 loss to the Knicks

In a matchup of two of the NBA’s worst teams, the Lakers came up with one of their worst efforts this season.

They lost to the New York Knicks, 92-80, on Sunday after shooting only 36% from the field and failing to outscore Carmelo Anthony in the third quarter.

Almost everybody was off the mark for the Lakers, who fell to 13-35.

Robert Sacre missed all six of his shots. Wayne Ellington was two for 12. Wesley Johnson was four for 12.

Jordan Clarkson was pretty much the only standout for the Lakers, scoring 19 points by making six of 13 shots, including a long three-pointer in the final seconds.

Nick Young sat out because of a sprained ankle and then Jordan Hill left in the first quarter because of a strained right quadriceps. In the phrase that Lakers’ fans have grown to hate, he will be evaluated again Monday.

With Hill sidelined, the Lakers’ second-half starting lineup was Clarkson, Ellington, Sacre, Ryan Kelly and Tarik Black.

Anthony tied the Lakers in third-quarter scoring, 18-18, and finished with 31 points for the Knicks (10-38).

First half

The Lakers didn’t make many shots and trailed the New York Knicks, 47-39, at halftime Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

In a matchup of two of the NBA’s worst teams, the Lakers shot 26.8% in the first half (11 for 41). Robert Sacre missed all six of his shots, Wayne Ellington missed four of five and Wesley Johnson missed six of eight.

The Lakers (13-34) were without Nick Young (sprained ankle) and then lost Jordan Hill during the first quarter because of a strained right quadriceps muscle. He will be evaluated again Monday.

In the Lakers’ defense, they were able to get to the free-throw line pretty easily, making 13 of 15 from the line in the first half.

Jordan Clarkson had eight points on two-for-six shooting.

Carmelo Anthony had 13 points for the Knicks (9-38).
