Ugg, PacSun enter ‘Star Wars’ merchandise universe

Does Darth Vader do Uggs? Because he technically hails from a time long, long ago and a galaxy far, far away, we’re going with no. But thanks to Ugg’s new licensing deal with Disney-owned Lucasfilm, if he did find himself in the here and now -- and in need of comfy kicks to match that all-black uniform -- he’d have options.

Hitting retail Monday in observance of Star Wars Day (May 4, as in “May the Fourth be with you”), the limited-edition Star Wars X Ugg collection includes eight styles that pay homage to the Dark Lord of Sith, including three silhouettes for men, two for women, two for kids and one for infants -- all in black (naturally).

Details include quilted leather (not bantha hide) exteriors, black outsoles with star-like flecks of white and spare pops of red in label contrast stitching, rivets and embroidered Imperial logos.

The collection, which retails from $100 to $225, is available starting Monday at select Ugg stores nationwide (including the Grove and South Coast Plaza locations) as well as online at uggaustralia.com. According to Ugg’s announcement of the partnership, forthcoming collections this year will honor other “iconic characters of the original films.”

Another place you’ll find the retail Force strong on Monday is PacSun, which took the wraps off a Star Wars X On the Byas men’s collaboration that incorporates a handful of familiar faces from the films, including all-over prints of Stormtrooper helmets or Darth Vader helmets on mesh baseball-style jerseys ($34.95), tank tops and chino shorts ($22.95 and $59.95, respectively) emblazoned with an Ewok/floral motif (which totally reminds us of last year’s “Yoda Aloha” print Vans) and an assortment bursting with Boba Fettish botanicals including a short-sleeve button-front ($44.95).

Exclusive to PacSun, the Star Wars X On the Byas merchandise is available at PacSun stores (including the Third Street Promenade location in Santa Monica) as well as online at PacSun.com.
