Deputy L.A. city attorney gets probation for possessing child porn

A deputy Los Angeles city attorney was ordered Tuesday to serve five years’ probation for possessing child pornography, authorities said.

Christopher Richard Garcia, 57, was sentenced to probation after changing his plea from not guilty to no contest to one count of possessing child pornography, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Garcia was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and must receive counseling.

Garcia was charged last month with two felony counts of child pornography-related charges stemming from his Sept. 4 arrest at his home in San Pedro.

Garcia had been under investigation since at least November, when authorities served a search warrant at his home and found some “questionable images” on computers and other electronic evidence.

A forensic search of his home computer revealed evidence of child pornography, prosecutors said.

Garcia, who has been on administrative leave, will lose his license to practice law as a result of this plea, according to the district attorney’s office.
