Greater Los Angeles should get a light, early-week dousing as near-record temperatures and strong winds give way to clouds, cooler weather and a 60% chance of rain.

“Right now it looks like the window for rain will be Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, with the very best chance of rain Monday night,” said Ryan Kittell, a National Weather Service forecaster.

That window for rain isn’t likely to open very far: Most of the region will get no more than one-tenth of an inch, Kittell said, with even the wettest areas topping out at a quarter of an inch.

“It will be a really big change in the weather compared to the weekend, with a decent chance of rain, but probably not a whole bunch of it,” he said.

High temperatures, which broke records in one or two places and “knocked on the door” in a couple of others, will drop by 10 to 15 degrees to seasonal norms, Kittell said. Winds also have subsided in most of the region, he said, with some strong gusts persisting Sunday in the mountains and coastal valleys.

The predicted rain is courtesy of low pressure and warm air moving in from the south. The weather system will produce little or no white stuff, Kittell said, pegging the snow level at about 7,000 feet.

The area will dry out Tuesday, with the next chance for rain – a similarly light amount, at that -- on Friday and Saturday.

Since the rain season began Oct. 1, downtown Los Angeles has tallied 5.59 inches – nearly an inch below normal for this time of year.
