Boys’ basketball: Sophomore Kobe Smith comes through for Gardena Serra

Gardena Serra has a very good sophomore basketball player in Kobe Smtih.

He scored 18 points on Friday night to lift the Cavaliers past Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 53-52, in a Del Rey League upset. Bishop Montgomery remained unbeaten with a 70-57 win over St. Bernard. Jordan Schakel scored 27 points, David Singleton 25 and Ethan Thompson 16.

In a Big VIII League showdown, Eastvale Roosevelt defeated Corona Centennial, 56-55.

In the Baseline League, Chino Hills improved to 16-0 with a 107-56 win over Rancho Cucamonga. LiAngelo Ball scored 30 points. It’s the eighth time this season the Huskies have made it past 100 points in a game. Etiwanda defeated Los Osos, 76-47. Krystian Wilson scored 16 points. Damien received 24 points from Bryce Peters in a 77-43 win over Upland. Justin Hemsley added 21 points and 10 rebounds.

In the Mission League, Crespi outscored Chaminade, 26-0, in the first quarter en route to a 76-30 win over the Eagles. De’Anthony Melton scored 15 points and Billy Oxley 14. Alemany defeated Loyola, 72-58. Shacquille Dawkins scored 30 points. Harvard-Westlake defeated St. Francis, 66-38. Wolfgang Novogratz finished with 14 poins. Cassius Stanley had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.

In the Trinity League, St. John Bosco defeated Servite, 67-54. JJ Watson scored 27 points and Makani Whiteside had eight assists. Orange Lutheran defeated JSerra, 58-43. Joseph Riley scored 16 points. Mater Dei received 14 points from Harrison Bulter in a 57-48 win over Santa Margarita

In the West Valley League, Taft defeated El Camino Real, 61-44. Kihei Clark had 14 points. Birmingham defeated Granada Hills, 81-50. Devante Doutrive scored 23 points and had 17 rebounds. Deschon Winston added 18 points. Cleveland defeated Chatsworth, 65-62. Wayne Currie scored 21 points for Cleveland.

In the Coliseum League, Dorsey rallied for a 63-61 win over View Park. Tommie Groce scored 16 points and Lafayette Dorsey 15. In the Valley Mission League, Van Nuys defeated Reseda, 69-51. Tyree Windborn scored 22 points and Kevin Hurlic had 20 points and 10 assists.

In the East Valley League, Chad Holloway scored 28 points in Grant’s 73-45 win over Poly. North Hollywood defeated Verdugo Hills, 57-41. In the Eastern League, South Gate defeated Roosevelt, 64-28.

In the Marine League, Matthew Mondesir scored 43 points in Washington’s 99-34 win over Banning.

In the Olympic League, Village Christian defeated Whittier Christian, 54-43. Jalen Riley and Isaac Etter each had 11 points.

In the Prep League, Flintridge Prep defeated Pasadena Poly, 56-40. Andrew Tsangeos scored 28 points. In the Golden League, Highland defeaed Littlerock, 81-33. Justen Miller scored 21 points, making five threes. Deshay Gipson added 18 points.

In the Western League, Fairfax defeated University, 94-57. Donald Gipson scored 24 points and Babacar Thiombane added 19 points and 13 rebounds. Jude Agbasi and Gabe Okmin each had 21 points for University. Venice defeated Palisades, 55-51. Westchester defeated LACES, 78-32.

In the Moore League, Compton defeated Long Beach Millikan, 76-61. Long Beach Poly defeated Cabrillo, 68-45.

Redondo defeated Morningside, 80-49. Leland Green scored 17 points.

Beverly Hills defeated Hawthorne, 67-31. Maddox Daniels finished with 18 points. Ron Artest added 14 points. Santa Monica defeated Lawndale, 74-26. Jonah Mathews scored 23 points and Rip Economou added 16.

In Missouri, Sierra Canyon advanced to the championship game of the Bass Pro TOC with a 66-58 win over Missouri Chaminade. Deveral Ramsey had 18 points and Remy Martin 17.

In the Foothill League, West Ranch defeated Saugus, 72-68, in overtime. Austin Galuppo had 33 points. Hart defeated Canyon, 60-33.

Calabasas defeated Newbury Park, 55-38. Ryan Murphy scored 14 points. Thousand Oaks defeated Westlake, 60-50. Bling Huang had 17 points for Westlake. Royal defeated Simi Valley, 56-41. Oak Park defeated Moorpark, 60-50. Riley Battin contributed 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Rancho Mirage improved to 17-0 with a 76-71 win over Twentynine Palms. Charles Neal scored 31 points and Daryn Evans 22, including 11 of 11 from the free-throw line.

Ayala defeated Glendora, 79-57. John Edgar had 27 points.

Central City defeated Mendez, 74-35. Joel Finney scored 35 points.

Los Altos defeated Chino, 68-53. Freshman Jarod Lucas had 22 points.
