Small plane crashes into Compton backyard; pilot rushed to hospital

The pilot of a single-engine plane was rushed to the hospital Wednesday after crashing into a Compton backyard, authorities said.

The single-engine Piper PA28 crashed onto a property in the 1800 block of West Reeve Street about 2:20 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The pilot was the only person on board the aircraft, the FAA said. The pilot suffered injuries not deemed to be life-threatening, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The plane is registered to Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum in Compton, FAA records show. A person who answered the phone at the museum Wednesday afternoon said no one was available to comment.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
