USC is apparently making progress in its recruitment of Gardena Serra High defensive lineman Oluwole Betiku, who committed to UCLA in August but recently withdrew that commitment.

He was on USC’s campus Wednesday with Serra teammate and Trojans commit C.J. Pollard.

Pollard said he and Coach Clay Helton sat down with Betiku for 40 minutes to discuss how Betiku would fit in with the team. Also brought into the meeting was freshman defensive lineman Rasheem Green, who graduated from Serra and has played in nine games this season.

“[Helton] was saying how ‘Wole will always have a home at ‘SC,” Pollard said. “[Green] showed him how successful he has been.”

Betiku, 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, has made official visits to Florida State and Texas A&M. He has a trip to Notre Dame scheduled for this weekend.

Pollard, the son of former USC defensive back Marvin Pollard, signed a financial-aid agreement with USC in September and is on track to enroll in January.

There are eight players from Serra on USC’s roster: cornerbacks Adoree’ Jackson and Jalen Jones, receivers Jalen Greene and Deontay Burnett, linebackers John Houston Jr. and Olajuwon Tucker, tight end Caleb Wilson and Green.

USC has 14 players committed in its 2016 recruiting class.
