QuiltCon puts a modern spin on the quilting experience in Pasadena

The art of quilting has always had a social component in the form of bees and other gatherings, and the Modern Quilt Guild’s QuiltCon is carrying on this tradition.

QuiltCon, which is scheduled for Feb. 18 through 21 at the Pasadena Convention Center, will feature workshops, demonstrations, lectures, a juried competition and more than 375 modern quilts on display that both avid practitioners and observers can appreciate alike. With its embracing of Minimalist geometry as well as more free-form approaches to design and pattern making, this isn’t your grandmother’s quilting experience.

“The Modern Quilt Guild is thrilled to be bringing QuiltCon to Pasadena for the first time, as the MQG was founded right here in Los Angeles,” said MQG co-founder Alissa Haight Carlton. “We hope that anyone in the Southern California area who is interested in art, craft and design makes their way to the show.”
