Cal Poly Pomona revokes Bill Cosby’s honorary degree

Cal Poly Pomona has revoked an honorary degree awarded to comedian Bill Cosby, officials announced Friday, joining dozens of other universities across the country in rescinding honors over allegations of sexual assault.
The Cal State Board of Trustees voted this week to revoke an honorary doctor of letters degree awarded to Cosby in 1992.
A statement from the chancellor’s office said that “Cosby’s conduct is contrary to the values of the CSU and inconsistent with the criteria and high standards that honorary degree recipients are expected to exemplify.”

It is the first time in the 52 years that the 23-campus system has been awarding honorary doctorate degrees that trustees have voted to rescind an honor, officials said.
In recent months, dozens of institutions have moved to cut ties with Cosby as more women have publicly accused him of drugging and raping them.
Cosby has never been charged with a crime and has denied all allegations, saying his encounters were consensual.
