Chaminade (6-3, 3-2), battling for a Pac-5 Division playoff berth, hosts Gardena Serra (8-1, 5-0) on Friday night in a renewal of an annual game that sometimes has taken place twice in a season.

One of the most memorable came in 2013, when Chaminade lost to Serra, 36-0, then came back to hand Serra its only defeat, 38-35, in the Western Division final. Coach Ed Croson saved some plays that year when the Eagles fell way behind and used them in the final.

This time, though, Croson is vowing to hold nothing back.

“This year, they’re getting the kitchen sink,” Croson said. “You name it, they’re getting it.”

Croson is spending lots of time trying to figure out how to contain Serra quarterback Khalil Tate.

“How do you tackle him because he’s big and fast and can throw,” Croson said. “He’s a game breaker. He’s as much a big-play weapon as Adoree’ Jackson was.”
