Watch the trailer for Cameron Crowe’s ‘Roadies’ and remember when ‘Almost Famous’ changed your life

Showtime’s “Roadies” got an official trailer and debut date as announced by the cable network on Friday.

The first original television series from director Cameron Crowe, “Roadies” centers on the committed group of roadies (individuals who travel with a band and are responsible for equipment setup and maintenance) who tour with the Staton-House Band and have found fun and family in each other and the music they live for.

The trailer suggests the simple beauty and emotion one might expect from a project that includes collaboration from Crowe and Winnie Holzman.

Crowe, whose semi-autobiographical film “Almost Famous” followed a teenage journalist as he toured the country with a band on the rise and their dedicated groupies, has a passion for music that suffuses much of his work. Holzman, best known for creating “My So-Called Life,” has an innate understanding of interpersonal dynamics, no matter how prickly the character may be. Together, the pair share a creative style completely devoid of cynicism, a point-of-view often rare on television.

J.J. Abrams, along with Crowe and Holzman, serves as executive producer on the project. Additionally, Holzman will write for the show, as will Crowe, who will also direct.

The roadies themselves are made up of a number of familiar faces, including Luke Wilson, Carla Gugino, Imogen Poots, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Luis Guzman, Colson Baker and Ron White.

As a testament to Crowe’s rock ‘n’ roll credibility, the trailer is scored with Eddie Vedder’s “Hard Sun,” a cover originally released on the soundtrack of 2007’s “Into the Wild.”
