Baseball: Lakewood advances with eight-run fifth inning to defeat Sherman Oaks Notre Dame

Lakewood used an eight-run fifth inning to wipe out a 4-0 deficit and defeat Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 10-7, in a Southern Section Division 1 wild-card game on Tuesday.

Jason Hurst finished with three hits and three RBIs. Jacob Acosta added three hits. Ryan Morris went four for four to lead Notre Dame. Lakewood moves on to play Murrieta Mesa in a first-round game on Friday.

Dana Hills 4, Great Oak 0: Kayl Cota threw a four-hit shutout, striking out nine for Dana Hills, which gets to throw ace Hans Crouse on Friday in a Division 1 playoff opener against top-seeded JSerra. Joe DeBaca hit a home run. Jeremy Ciolek had two hits and two RBIs.

Harvard-Westlake 6, Westlake 4: Jesse Bergin struck out five in six innings. Leo Kaplan had two hits. Harvard-Westlake will play at North on Friday.

Edison 3, Long Beach Poly 2: Kaz Akamatsu threw a complete game, allowing two hits. He struck out five. John Thomas hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Leo Hyodo had the RBI double in the sixth for the go-ahead run. Edison will play at Cypress.

La Palma Kennedy 8, Riverside Poly 7: Kennedy advances to play at El Toro in a Division I opener.

Righetti 7, Garden Grove 0: In a Division 3 wild-card game, Matt Sauer, an Arizona commit, and Corey Bryant combined on a one-hitter. Then Righetti went to Angel Stadium to watch Angels-Dodgers game.

Campbell Hall 15, Rosemead 5: Ryan Croutch had a home run and four RBIs.

Baldwin Park 3, Twentynine Palms 2: Francisco Ruiz had two hits and two RBIs. Christian Jauregui struck out six in six innings.
