Another one of Lena Dunham's tweets has caused a social media firestorm, and this time it's directed at pop star Justin Bieber.

The "Girls" creator and star tweeted a message that appeared to slam Bieber's latest single, "What Do You Mean?" which he debuted with an emotional performance at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards.

"Let's do away with pop songs where a girl nods yes when she means no and vice versa, k?" Dunham, 29, tweeted on Sunday, seemingly citing the lyrics to the single. (The chorus goes: "What do you mean?/ When you nod your head yes / But you wanna say no")

What do you mean, indeed.

The transmission riled up the feminist's online audience, whose interpretations varied from pop-centric to rape-oriented. Bieber's legion of fans attacked her for dissing the object of their affection, while others complained that her thoughts on sexual content are moot because of tawdry admissions involving her younger sister that she made in her memoir.

The 21-year-old crooner did not address the controversy on his social media accounts.

By Wednesday, the Lenny newsletter scribe took to Instagram to diffuse the vitriol, posting a twinning side-by-side image showing her and the Biebs' iconic haircuts.

"How could anyone think I have an issue with Bieber?" she wrote.

How could anyone think I have an issue with Bieber?

But that didn't stop the haters, who seized the new forum to rally their disdain.
