Kensington Palace celebrates royal birth via #WelcomeToTheFamily

Share

With the newest royal -- a baby princess -- delivered safe and sound Saturday to two-time parents William and Catherine, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Kensington Palace opened its virtual doors to an online celebration of newborns from all over.

Courtesy of the #WelcomeToTheFamily hashtag on Twitter, select baby girls and boys and even a pet or two made it onto a Storify blog assembled by the people behind the @KensingtonRoyal feed, which shares news about Kate, Wills and of course Prince Harry.

(One amusing point: The hashtag wound up including some very non-princessy dudes as fans of American football welcomed new draft picks to their NFL families.)

The duke and duchess and their nearly 2-year-old firstborn, Prince George, didn’t waste much time at the hospital, checking in around 6 a.m. local time and then getting back to Kensington Palace around 5 p.m. after the baby’s 8:34 a.m. arrival.

It’s good to be second?

The princess made her public debut much sooner than her older brother did, with the royals showing her off outside the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital on their way home. The first time around, Kate gave it a day before stepping out of the hospital -- but of course looked equally smashing after both births.

The world will have to wait for the 8-pound, 3-ounce princess’ name, but with luck that wait won’t be too long: George Alexander Louis’ moniker went public on July 24, 2013, two days after he was born.
