Emma Watson confirms casting of Beast, Gaston in ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Gaston, meet the Beast.

Emma Watson has seemingly confirmed the casting of “Downton Abbey” alum Dan Stevens and “The Hobbit” actor Luke Evans to play the Beast and Gaston, respectively, in Disney’s upcoming live-action reboot of 1991’s “Beauty and the Beast.”

Watson, the “Harry Potter” alum who has been tapped to play beautiful bookworm Belle (basically the fairy tale-princess version of Hermione Granger), announced the latest deals on Twitter on Thursday.

Variety reported Wednesday that Evans, who played Bard the Bowman in “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” and has had a prolific career as a stage actor, would be joining the cast as the vain misogynist Gaston. Now imagine us singing this part: “He’s everyone’s favorite guy.”

The Welsh “Dracula Untold” star, 35, tweeted out the news, and Watson shared an on-point themed greeting as well.

“Bonjour Gaston! Welcome! #BeautyAndTheBeast,” she wrote, posting a pic of Evans.

Then on Thursday, the Hollywood Reporter said that blue-eyed Stevens would play the Beast/Prince, who takes Belle captive in his castle in lieu of her father in the French fairy tale.

“Could not be more happy that this man will be Beast!!! Welcome aboard @thatdanstevens #beautyandthebeast,” Watson wrote, posting a silly snapshot of Stevens with animals in the background.

“I know he looks frightful, but he’s really very gentle and kind ...”

The Englishman, 32, who is best known stateside for playing Matthew Crawley in the first three seasons of “Downton Abbey, also took to Twitter to share the casting news by posting a “Beast Mode” graphic.

Stevens started out as a theater actor and costarred alongside Jessica Chastain in 2012 in “The Heiress” on Broadway. He recently appeared in “The Guest” and played Lancelot in “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.”

It’s unclear if the negotiations have been finalized.

And while Disney’s current reboot of “Cinderella” starring Lily James and Cate Blanchett isn’t a musical, it appears that “Beauty and the Beast” might be.

When Watson’s casting was announced back in January, she took to Facebook to share her excitement, saying she’d be working on her vocal chops.

“I’m finally able to tell you... that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast!” the 24-year-old wrote. “It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling - heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma xx”

The film is being directed by Bill Condon, who helmed “The Twilight Saga -- Breaking Dawn” and “Dreamgirls.” Additional casting rumors have pointed to Watson’s “Harry Potter” costars Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts and Timothy Spall as Maurice.

Filming is set to begin later this year, but no release date has been set.
