Benedict Cumberbatch’s baby name revealed -- unfortunately, it’s not Cumberbaby

Benedict Cumberbatch’s baby has a name, and it’s totally normal.

The uniquely named “Sherlock” star welcomed a son with new bride Sophie Hunter in early June and managed to keep the little guy’s moniker shrouded in secrecy. While “Cumberbaby” was a perfectly suitable pseudonym for the arrival, the boy’s parents went and gave him a proper name: Christopher Carlton, according to People.

The Oscar nominee’s rep did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for confirmation.

The People report said Carlton is a name passed down by the men in the British actor’s family -- Cumberbatch and his father, Timothy, also share the name.

When he appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” last January, the host breezed through several unique baby name suggestions, including Engelbert, Harpsichord, Glockenspiel and Carl. Looks like that last one sort of made the cut.

The actor wed Hunter, an actress and theater director, on Valentine’s Day on England’s Isle of Wight. Since Cumberbaby’s arrival, the “Star Trek” star was spotted at Wimbledon in July, talking on his cellphone while watching the tennis matches with his dad.

He was also photographed coming in and out of rehearsals for his West End production of “Hamlet,” in which he plays the titular Prince of Denmark, and was joined by his wife last week for opening night festivities.

Aside from his “Hamlet” run at the Barbican Theatre and even with a baby at home, the 39-year-old star still has a busy film and TV schedule ahead. He’ll appear in the highly anticipated Victorian-era “Sherlock” special, costar in the Whitey Bulger biopic “Black Mass” due later this month, Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” and Disney’s live-action “Jungle Book” film.”
