Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ fiancee posts his apology for ‘minor relapse’

Jonathan Rhys Meyers appears to be apologizing for a “minor relapse” in his struggle with alcohol addiction.

The Irish star, known for his turns as the titular “Dracula” in NBC’s horror drama and King Henry VIII in Showtime’s “The Tudors,” has been battling addiction for years and has been in and out of rehab since 2005.

He looked like he fell off the wagon earlier this month when he was photographed walking around London looking disheveled in a stained T-shirt while carrying a bottle of booze. Page Six reported that he poured himself a drink during the walk too.

In an effort to keep his personal life from eclipsing the promotional run for his spy thriller “Damascus Cover” at the Cannes Film Festival last week, the 37-year-old appears to have issued a statement via his fiancee Mara Lane’s Instagram account owning up to the latest pitfall and thanking fans for their support.

Meyers’ manager and publicist did not immediately respond to requests for comment nor to requests to confirm the authenticity of the post.

“I apologize for having a minor relapse and hope that people don’t think too badly of me,” the post said. “I stopped drinking immediately and it is no reflection on Damascus Cover as I was not meant to attend Cannes this year and I apologize to fans and colleagues.”

The statement, which accompanied a selfie of Lane on the photo-sharing app, said that he is “on the mend” and also apologized for his “disheveled appearance.”

“I was on my way home from a friends and had not changed I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed but this was just a blip in my recovery otherwise I’m living a healthy life. Love and blessings. #Rebel #Angel,” the post concluded.

Meyers’ history with alcohol has included an arrest for public intoxication at the Dublin, Ireland, airport in November 2009, according to People. The following June, he was detained again after allegedly assaulting an airport lounge employee in Paris. He checked back into rehab in May 2010, and, in 2011, he was found on the floor of his London home and taken to a hospital in what appeared to be another relapse.
