Bristol Palin’s ex Dakota Meyer says he’s the dad — and wants to be part of Sailor Grace’s life

Two days before Christmas, Bristol Palin welcomed her second child. But of course, it can't be that simple.

Now the purported father of baby girl Sailor Grace has come forward publicly. And he's asking for joint custody and child support. And Sarah Palin is not happy.

The 25-year-old announced her second pregnancy — but not the identity of the father — last June, about a month after she and Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer called off their May 23 wedding, only days before it was to happen. The confluence of events, of course, had the rumor mill cranking.

"I do not want any lectures," Bristol Palin said at the time, "and I do not want any sympathy."

My sweet Sailor Grace was born yesterday, our family couldn't be more complete ¿¿¿¿

Cut to Christmas Eve: As Bristol announces her daughter's Dec. 23 birth via Instagram, her former fiance posts a picture of the newborn as well, captioning it, "Best Christmas present ever!! I couldn't be more proud of this little blessing." So that's social-media official, right?

Now, however, Kentucky resident Meyer has petitioned the court to make it officially official, telling an Alaska court in a filing Monday that he believes he's the baby's biological dad and asking to be granted joint custody of her, plus child support, TMZ reported Tuesday.

Enter Mama Grizzly.

"For many months we have been trying to reach out to Dakota Myers [sic]," the former Alaska governor told Entertainment Tonight in a statement late Tuesday, "and he has wanted nothing to do with either Bristol's pregnancy or the baby." Meyer, Sarah Palin said, is now trying to "save face."

Bristol Palin's rep, David Martin, told ET with regard to Meyer's lawsuit: "My values are such that a real American hero doesn't ask for child support."

Meyer's attorney in Anchorage, Alaska, told the Associated Press that the 27-year-old former Marine wants to be part of his child's life.

Well, as with many public figures, it won't be the "Dancing With the Stars" alum's first fight over custody and child support. But the silver lining? No matter how it all shakes out, Bristol's kids — Tripp turned 7 on Dec. 28 — are nothing if not cute. Just look ...

My heart just doubled
