No, George Clooney isn’t a wedding cheapskate (the in-laws are safe)

With George Clooney’s wedding to Amal Alamuddin just around the corner, a couple of details and one big debunking have emerged.

First the fake-out: A story about Alamuddin’s parents “paying for most” of the wedding is not true, Gossip Cop reports exclusively. It’s “simply not the case,” an insider told the website.

Though it’s traditional for the bride’s family to pay for a wedding, Clooney -- whose 2013 hit “Gravity” made more than $716 million worldwide -- is reportedly more than happy to pick up the tab for an event that will clearly be more extravagant than the average nuptials.

An unconfirmed report from an Italian outlet has the ceremony happening at a 14th century palace on Venice’s Grand Canal, the guests staying at a seven-star hotel where rooms start at $1,600 a night and the entertainment being provided by Lana del Rey. Whether that information is accurate is a wait-and-see situation.

Back in reality, none other than Giorgio Armani himself confirmed a previous WWD report about the groom’s ensemble of choice, telling People during Milan Fashion Week that Clooney “has chosen and been fitted for an Armani suit for his wedding.”

The actor recently revealed he and his fiancee would marry in Venice, Italy. They got a marriage license in early August on her London turf.

“I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, whom I will be marrying, in a couple of weeks, in Venice, of all places,” he said at a Sept. 7 charity event in Florence.

Before he kisses the bride, however, Clooney apparently took time to lay a smooch on Maggie Smith while they filmed a scene for the upcoming season of “Downton Abbey.”

“George plants a kiss and Maggie ends up on the floor, it’s wonderful,” actress Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith, said Thursday at a London premiere of the upcoming season’s first episode. “He was hilarious.”

In May, the Daily Mail had reported Clooney and Alamuddin were considering getting married at Highclere Castle, which doubles for Downton Abbey. Oops.

They didn’t get married last week in London either, despite media and passers-by crowding around the Chelsea Town Hall on Friday. Oh well, a couple from Surrey, England, who actually did tie the knot that morning got a nice cheer from the crowd as they exited the building.

Meanwhile, Rande Gerber, husband of Cindy Crawford and partners with Clooney and developer Mike Meldman in Casamigos tequila, was caught on TMZ video Thursday in Los Angeles pulling up to a private Casamigos-branded plane while dozens of cases of anejo and blanco were loaded on as cargo. Gerber made sure to grab a bottle of each for the road, high-fiving the delivery guy before boarding the Italy-bound jet.

Hey, three days of celebration are rumored to be in the works. Wouldn’t want to run out.
