Lana Del Rey is annoyed that sex didn’t help her get a record deal?

Lana Del Rey talks about her music, her songwriting, her experience with her newest producer and more in a new interview. Of course, it's the comment about sex that's getting all the attention.

Lana Del Rey might have been making a joke. She probably was making some sort of joke when she was talking about the meaning of her tune “ ... My Way Up to the Top.”

But it’s much more fun to take the singer’s words as if they were uttered in stone-cold seriousness.

“You know, I have slept with a lot of guys in the industry, but none of them helped me get my record deals,” the 29-year-old told Complex magazine for its August/September issue.

“Which is annoying.”

But likely not as annoying as seeing the headline written above?

Del Rey actually led into that quote with the explanation that her song, in which a woman declares she got where she got by doing what she did, is actually “commentary, like, ‘I know what you think of me,’ and I’m alluding to that.”

And Del Rey (real name Lizzy Grant) has been dealing with what people think of her for a while now. Witness the reception of her 2012 performance on “Saturday Night Live” as a landmark example.

“The good thing about catching so much grief from critics is that you literally do not ... care,” she told the mag.

With luck, focused media scrutiny of a single quote from one rather long interview won’t be too annoying either.
