While the romance between “Twilight” costars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson is long gone, the headlines are not.

Twenty-six-year-old Stewart provided the latest in the canon of Robsten quotes, explaining why their previous relationship kept the actress from exposing her true self and instead spun her into an anxious celebrity uncomfortable with her own fame.

“People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product. It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me,” the “Cafe Society” star said in the New York Times’ T magazine. “It’s not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I’m doing in my life. It’s that I don’t want to become a part of a story for entertainment value.”

Her “Twilight” years were marked by “debilitating physical anxiety” and awkward interviews amid fan hysteria over the page-to-screen-to-real-life couple. Then their headline-grabbing romance came to a halt soon after she was photographed kissing married “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders in 2012.

The former child star, who has been dating visual effects producer Alicia Cargile for the past three years, describes herself as “not the typical showman,” but still aches for people to know the real her, she told the mag.

“I want so badly to expose myself. I want to be understood and I want to be seen, and I want to do that in the rawest, purest, most naked way I can,” the Chanel spokeswoman explained.

She’s been able to go with that impulse because the attention that came with her fame “is no longer negative or fear-based,” Stewart said.

“I do think that’s because of the storms I have weathered. It’s not that they make you stronger or calloused — but they do make you a human.”
