Madonna’s epic fall during the Brit Awards last week was no fault of her cape designer, Giorgio Armani — that according to the Italian couturier.

“Madonna, as we all know, is very difficult,” Armani told the Associated Press backstage at his recent Emporio Armani runway show in Milan. “That’s all there was to it.”

The voluminous bullfighter’s cape that brought the Material Girl plummeting down some stairs during show’s live finale was meant to be closed with an easy-to-release hook. However, the designer said, Madonna wanted the closure to be tied instead.

The singer said that it was tied around her neck too tightly, so when her two dancers were supposed to be pulling it off, they ended up pulling her down the stairs instead.

“Everyone was worried my cape would slide off, so they tied it really tight around my neck,” the 56-year-old said on Britain’s “The Jonathan Ross Show” on Saturday. “I got to the top of the stairs and I pulled the silky string, and it wouldn’t come undone.

“I had two choices: I could either be strangled or fall, and I chose to fall.

Madge, who was singing her new song “Living for Love” during the incident, declined to watch a replay of the fall, which became instantly popular thanks to the interwebs.

“The universe was trying to teach me a lesson, I guess,” she continued. “I didn’t hurt my butt, I hurt my head.”

The singer said she know “how to fall” and tucked herself in, crediting her “good core strength” for preventing any serious injuries. However, she did get hurt.

“The thing is I had a little bit of a whiplash and I smacked the back of my head. There was a man standing over me with a flashlight until about 3 a.m. to make sure I was still compos mentis.”

But the singer appears to be doing just fine now: She just announced her 35-city Rebel Heart Tour, which kicks off Aug. 29 in Miami. Tickets for her Oct. 27 show at the Forum in Inglewood go on sale March 16.
