Jamie Foxx on rescuing man from burning truck: ‘You just had to do something’

Jamie Foxx, who along with another man pulled a driver out of his crashed truck just seconds before it burst into flames, says he doesn't look at what he did as heroic.

"I just look at it like, you know, you just had to do something," said the Oscar winner, who on Tuesday met with Brad Kyle, the father of Brett Kyle, who crashed in front of Foxx's Hidden Valley home the night before.

Foxx spent about a half hour with the elder Kyle inside his home, according to KCBS, and let him review security footage of the wreck. The car reportedly hit a drainage pipe and concrete and flipped several times before catching on fire.

"I just kept watching it and going, 'My God. My God,'" Brad Kyle told reporters, his voice cracking with emotion. "[Foxx] didn't have to do a thing. ... I think we all hope that we can do something when the time is there, but the question is, do we? Do we act, or do we fear our own lives? And he did not."

The actor posted a shot online of himself and Brad Kyle embracing, saying in the caption, "This is all that matters. That a man, a son, a brother's life was spared last night. God had his arms wrapped around all of us...No heroes...Just happy fathers."

Foxx said that when he was pulling Brett Kyle from the driver's seat, with the help of an EMT who was driving by and stopped to help, "I said, you gotta help me get you out, 'cause I don't want to have to leave you, and I said, you've got angels around you."

The EMT, whom Foxx referred to only by the first name Christian, had scissors that they used to cut off Kyle's seat belt, with no time to spare.

"As we pull him out," the actor said, "within five seconds later the truck goes up."

Brett Kyle was taken to the hospital and according to TMZ was later booked on suspicion of DUI.
