Classic Hollywood: LACMA’s Tuesday matinee series salutes Bing Crosby in December

Share

Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s long-running Tuesday matinee series pays homage to Bing Crosby in December with five of his greatest films. First up on Tuesday is 1956’s “High Society,” the glossy musical remake of “The Philadelphia Story” also starring Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra. Scheduled for Dec. 8 is the jazzy 1941 “Birth of the Blues” with Mary Martin. His Christmas classics — 1942’s “Holiday Inn” and 1954’s “White Christmas” — are on tap for Dec. 15 and 22, respectively. And the series winds down on Dec. 29 with Crosby’s Oscar-nominated turn as an alcoholic singer attempting a comeback in 1954’s “The Country Girl,” for which Grace Kelly earned the Academy Award as his long-suffering wife.
