Ducks sign defenseman Sami Vatanen for two seasons
The Ducks signed defenseman Sami Vatanen to a two-year contract through the 2015-16 season on Tuesday.
A hockey official not authorized to discuss financial terms publicly said the deal is valued at $2.525 million, with Vatanen earning $1.25 million this coming season.
The 23-year-old scored 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in his rookie campaign, impressing as an offensive-minded blue-liner who was plus-nine in goal differential in 48 games of action.
The 5-foot-10, 183-pound Vatanen, a member of Finland’s bronze-medal winning Olympic team earlier this year, was frequently mentioned as a trade target of others, but the Ducks kept him through the March trade deadline and June draft dealing.
