The human trade rumor has been traded out of the country.

Troy Tulowitzki, the long-beleaguered face of an underachieving franchise, was traded late Monday by the Colorado Rockies to the Toronto Blue Jays, according to reports.

The Blue Jays (50-50) landed a power-hitting shortstop to boost a team that ranks first in the major leagues in runs scored and 23rd in earned-run average. The Blue Jays, trying to make the playoffs for the first time since 1993, are seven games out of first place in the American League East and three games out of a wild-card spot.

Tulowitzki and 42-year-old reliever LaTroy Hawkins were traded to Toronto for shortstop Jose Reyes and prospects, according to reports. It is unclear whether the Rockies plan to keep Reyes or flip him to another team.

Tulowitzki, 30, is signed through 2020. He is guaranteed another $107 million -- about $7 million for the rest of this season, $20 million in each of the next four seasons, $14 million in 2020 and a $4-million buyout of his 2021 option. He also gets $2 million because he was traded.

But he has not played 130 games since 2011, and the artificial turf at Toronto’s Rogers Centre could mean trouble for the oft-injured Tulowitzki. The Blue Jays have said they plan to install grass in 2018.

Tulowitzki, an All-Star in each of the past five seasons, is batting .300 in 87 games this season, with 12 home runs and an .831 OPS. He leads all major league shortstops in OPS.

Reyes, 32, has about $55 million left on his contract, a $106-million deal he signed with the Miami Marlins. He is batting .285 in 69 games this season, with four home runs, 16 stolen bases and a .708 OPS.
