Rams defensive lineman Quinton Coples produces after move inside

Quinton Coples is finding early success at a new position.

The Rams moved the 6-foot-6, 290-pound Coples from end to tackle before the exhibition season began, and he made several significant plays against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Coples made two tackles, including a sack, and forced two fumbles in the Rams’ 21-20 victory.

“That’s quite an adjustment considering where and how long he’s played,” Rams Coach Jeff Fisher said of the position change. “It’s new for him. He had some tough times last week against Dallas, a significant improvement last week on some of the contact drills, and I thought he played much better.”

Coples, 26, played in college at North Carolina, and the New York Jets selected him with the 16th pick in the 2012 draft. He played three-plus seasons for the Jets, mostly in a 3-4 scheme, but was released last November.

The Miami Dolphins signed Coples but released him in February to clear salary-cap space.

The Rams are scheduled to play the Denver Broncos on Saturday night at Denver.
