Clippers backup point guard Raymond Felton will not play against the Warriors on Wednesday, and could miss additional time because of family reasons.

“Obviously, he would be great to have, but it’s family thing,” Coach Doc Rivers said before the Clippers’ game against Golden State on Wednesday. “For us, I just believe family first, so I think he’ll be out for a couple of games.”

Felton is averaging 5.1 points and 1.4 assists in 17 minutes a game. He has been most effective as one of the team’s top on-ball defenders, and is the point guard of what was the NBA’s most efficient bench before the Clippers’ recent slide.

The veteran point guard started for the only time this season when Rivers rested J.J. Redick on the Clippers’ recent six-game trip. Felton also has been a solid floor spacer, shooting a career-best 43.2% from three-point range in limited attempts.

The Clippers (16-6) have lost four of six games and tip off against the Warriors (18-3) at 7:30 p.m. Felton’s defense will be missed against a Warriors team that ranks first in the league in scoring (120.2 points per game), sharing (32 assists per game) and pace, among other categories.

The Clippers host the Pelicans on Saturday and the Trailblazers on Monday before leaving for a three-game road swing.
