Florida Atlantic’s Lane Kiffin says he intentionally made a lame promo video to attract attention

Share

Lane Kiffin knew what he was doing.

All the squinting, shifting from foot to foot and general lack of enthusiasm from the new Florida Atlantic coach in the most awkward hype video in the history of college football was all for publicity.

Or so he says.

Last week the school tweeted out a video of Kiffin talking up national signing day and the upcoming football season in the fall — but looking and sounding about as unhyped as a human being could be.

Here’s one rather nonsensical sample sentence:

“So please join us [awkward pause] next week for its exciting season [weird inflection] and come watch the Owls have a great year and championship run starting with you.”

Huh?

The school later tried explaining that Kiffin — a former head coach at USC and Tennessee as well as for the Oakland Raiders — made the video bad on purpose “to generate attention.”

But if that’s the case, why did the school delete the original tweet containing the video earlier this week?

Oh, well, whatever. At this point, there’s only one thing left to say:

Go Owls.
