LA 2024 has added Jim Ford, a former investment management firm executive, to its Olympic bid committee as senior adviser.

Ford formerly served as managing director for Oaktree Capital Management, which is a major shareholder in The Times’ owner, Tribune Publishing.

“Jim’s business acumen and financial experience, along with his local knowledge and extensive network as a lifelong Angeleno, will be invaluable,” said Gene Sykes, the LA 2024 chief executive.

Among other things, Ford will oversee the agreements by which a potential 2024 Olympics would be held at numerous existing venues such as Staples Center, the Rose Bowl and a refurbished Coliseum.

Bid committee executives say 97% of the required facilities are already in place, with only one permanent venue needing to be constructed.

Los Angeles is competing against Paris, Rome and Budapest for the 2024 Games. The International Olympic Committee is scheduled to choose a host in September 2017.
