Tiger Woods is his own worst enemy when it comes to his golf game. That’s what Paul Azinger thinks.

Azinger, a former PGA Championship winner, said Thursday that Woods’ constant tinkering with his swing has made him a worse player.

“Jack [Nicklaus] might have made some tweaks and twerks here and there … but Tiger has made astronomical changes in a quest to get better. And as a result, Tiger has actually got a little bit worse. I think we can all pretty much see that,” Azinger said in a conference call with reporters on Thursday.

“Jack understood that if he could stay the same, he would still dominate. Tiger didn’t need to get better. He just didn’t need to get worse. He needed to stay the same and he could still dominate, and in his quest to get better, it’s kind of backfired on him.”

Woods hasn’t won a major tournament since 2008 and remains four behind Nicklaus in his quest to win the most majors of any golfer.

“He may look back and have regrets,” Azinger said.
