St. Louis Rams receiver Stedman Bailey was shot while sitting in a car with four other people outside a Miami Gardens, Fla., home on Tuesday night.

According to multiple reports, Bailey, 25, was shot twice in the head. An unknown person or persons drove alongside in another vehicle and began firing, according to NFL.com. Bailey’s cousin also was shot and suffered life-threatening injuries, the website said.

“We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition,” the Rams said in a statement. “We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”

A statement from the Miami Gardens police department said that Bailey and Antwan Reeves were shot around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. It does not mention how many times Bailey was shot or where the bullets landed.

Three other passengers, including two minors, were in the car at the time of the shooting, but none of them were harmed, according to the police statement.

“The victims drove themselves to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment,” the statement said.

Reeves was rushed to surgery upon arrival to the hospital, the statement said, adding that Bailey was awaiting surgery.

The police are looking for a light-colored, four-door sedan, possibly a Buick Regal, the statement said.
