Wesley Iwundu scored 22 points, freshman reserve Dean Wade had 17 and Kansas State upset top-ranked Oklahoma, 80-69, on Saturday night in Manhattan, Kan., to shake up the Big 12 race once again.

D.J. Johnson added 12 points and Justin Edwards 11 for the Wildcats (14-9, 3-7), who snapped the Sooners’ four-game win streak by holding in check player of the year front-runner Buddy Hield.

The high-scoring guard had 23 points, but a big chunk came in the final minutes, when the Sooners (19-3, 7-3) were desperately trying to rally against a team that wouldn’t budge an inch.

It was Kansas State’s first victory against a No. 1 team since topping Kansas on Feb. 11, 2011, and just the fifth time the program has knocked off the nation’s best team.

The Sooners fell into a second-place tie in the Big 12 with No. 7 Kansas and Texas after No. 14 West Virginia (19-4, 8-2) defeated No. 15 Baylor (17-6, 6-4) later Saturday.

Ryan Spangler had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Sooners, while Isaiah Cousins added 16 points. But the senior guard also fouled out with about a minute left when he committed a personal foul — his fourth — and then kicked the ball into the stands for a technical.

It was that kind of game for Oklahoma.

Hield was just seven for 16 from the floor, and didn’t attempt a free throw until there was about seven minutes left. Jordan Woodard went 0 for 5 and failed to score, and forwards Dante Buford and Khadeem Lattin were plagued by foul trouble.

at Notre Dame 80, No. 2 North Carolina 76: Demetrius Jackson scored 19 points, Bonzie Colson had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and the Fighting Irish rallied to beat the Tar Heels.

It was the second straight loss for North Carolina (19-4, 8-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).

The Irish used an 11-2 run to tie it at 48 on a basket by Jackson with 12:23 left, and the game was close the rest of the way. The Tar Heels closed to 77-76 on a pair of free throws by Marcus Paige with 32 seconds left. But Jackson made a pair of free throws and Steve Vasturia added another to help the Irish hold on.

Zach Auguste added 15 points for the Irish (16-7, 7-4).

No. 25 South Carolina 81, at No. 8 Texas A&M 78: Sindarius Thornwell had 25 points and nine assists, helping the Gamecocks beat the Aggies.

Michael Carrera scored 20 points on six-for-six shooting for South Carolina (20-3, 7-3 Southeastern Conference), which bounced back from a 69-56 loss at Georgia on Tuesday. Mindaugas Kacinas finished with 11 points.

Danuel House and Alex Caruso had 16 points apiece for Texas A&M (18-5, 7-3), which has lost two in a row and three of four. Jalen Jones scored 14 points in the Aggies’ first home loss of the season.

at No. 4 Maryland 72, No. 18 Purdue 61: Rasheed Sulaimon had 21 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, Robert Carter Jr. scored 19 and the Terrapins rallied to beat the Boilermakers to extend their home winning streak to 25 games.

Purdue led, 51-47, with 5:58 left before Carter hit a three-pointer to spark a 9-0 run that put the Terrapins ahead for good.

The Terrapins (21-3, 10-2 Big Ten) won despite a poor shooting performance by guard Melo Trimble, who missed 10 of his 12 shots. He finished with 14 points by going 10 for 11 at the foul line.
