Jameis Winston continues to do things that simply make no sense

Share

Jameis Winston lives in his own world. A world where it’s apparently just fine to take seafood without paying for it, carry a pellet gun around campus and jump on a table while screaming a vulgarity about women less than a year after being accused of, but not charged with, sexual assault.

So was anyone really surprised when the reigning Heisman Trophy winner showed up for Florida State’s key matchup with Clemson on Saturday in full gear -- pads and everything -- and started warming up with his teammates ... even though he had been suspended for the game because of that whole screaming-a-vulgarity-about-women incident?

Maybe on Planet Jameis “you’re suspended” really means, “we love you, we couldn’t survive without you, now get out there and have a great game.”

Or maybe Winston thought the university, which originally suspended him for only the first half, would have another change of heart or two at some point during the game. Hey, I wouldn’t put it past them.

Coach Jimbo Fisher, looking extremely annoyed, had a little chat with Winston, who then trotted into the locker room and eventually re-emerged wearing street clothes, except for his FSU jersey.

But don’t feel bad for Winston. He got plenty of airtime during ABC’s broadcast of the game, even though he was nothing more than a cheerleader (albeit a very famous one) standing on the sideline in this instance.

Don’t feel bad for the Seminoles either -- they somehow pulled out a 23-17 overtime victory behind backup quarterback Sean Maguire to keep their No. 1 ranking. And Winston was reinstated immediately after the game, ready to practice on Monday and play Saturday against North Carolina State.

See, all’s well that ends well. At least on Planet Jameis.
