Former Phoenix Suns player and front office executive Rex Chapman was arrested Friday in Arizona on suspicion of stealing $14,000 worth of merchandise from an Apple store.

Chapman, 46, allegedly stole $14,000 worth of products over multiple visits by using the self checkout at a Scottsdale Apple store, without actually paying, said Sgt. Mark Clark, a police spokesman.

Chapman was identified by witnesses who said they recognized him because of his celebrity, police said.

Chapman allegedly took the items to a pawn shop, where he got cash for them, police said.

Chapman, who also played for Charlotte, Washington and Miami during a 12-year NBA career that ended in 2000 with Phoenix, was arrested Friday on a traffic stop, Clark said.

The former NBA player is facing nine counts of organized retail theft and five counts of trafficking in stolen property, all felonies, police said.

Chapman played two seasons at the University of Kentucky, earning All-Southeastern Conference honors, before he was selected eighth overall in the first round of the 1988 draft by the Charlotte Hornets.
