The man Chile is counting on to score its goals at the World Cup, veteran striker Humberto Suazo, has suffered a left hamstring injury that could cause him to miss the tournament unless the team advances out of the first round.

Wire service reports out of Santiago said Suazo had sustained the injury during Chile’s 3-0 victory over Israel on Sunday and that it would definitely keep the player out of the South American team’s opening game against Honduras.

The reports indicated that Suazo, who played in all 18 of his country’s qualifying matches and scored 10 goals, also could miss the second game against Switzerland and possibly the third against Spain.

There was no immediate comment from the Chile team or the Chilean soccer federation, but Coach Marcelo Bielsa did include Suazo in his 23-man team when the final roster was named Tuesday.
