Taylor Kelly threw two touchdown passes after missing more than a month with a foot injury, the second a 7-yarder to Gary Chambers with 3 minutes left in No. 14 Arizona State’s 24-10 victory over Washington on a blustery Saturday night.

Playing in strong swirling wind with waves of heavy rain blowing in sideways, the guys from the desert managed the difficult conditions for their ninth straight win over Washington. Arizona State (6-1, 4-1 Pac-12) remained in control of the race in the Pac-12 South and set up a huge matchup with Utah next week in Tempe.

Kelly threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jaelen Strong in the first half, but was at his best on Arizona State’s final drive. On second-and-goal, Kelly got his pass off as he was being pulled down by Washington’s Hau’oli Kikaha. Chambers made the adjustment on the throw and hauled in his only catch of the night for the go-ahead points.

Armand Perry returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown with 52 seconds left when Washington’s Troy Williams attempted a desperation throw on fourth-and-25. It was the second interception throw by Williams, making his first start after Cyler Miles suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter last week against Oregon.

Washington (5-3, 1-3) suffered its second straight loss to a ranked opponent.

Stanford 38, Oregon State 14

Kevin Hogan threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, Ty Montgomery returned a punt for a score and Stanford’s sporadic offense busted out of its slump in a 38-14 rout of Oregon State on Saturday.

The Cardinal (5-3, 3-2 Pacific 12) controlled the game from start to finish, showing more diverse looks that they have all season — just like coach David Shaw had promised after a perplexing 26-10 loss at Arizona State last week took Stanford out of The Associated Press poll for the first time in four years.

Stanford still had its share of mistakes: Hogan tossed two interceptions, Ben Rhyne had a punt blocked and Jordan Williamson made one of two short field goals.

But the victory kept the Cardinal in control of winning a third straight Pac-12 title.

Stanford plays at No. 6 Oregon on Nov. 1, and the winner will move into first place in the league’s North Division.

Oregon State (4-3, 1-3) is all but out of the race to make the conference championship game now. Sean Mannion and the Beavers struggled to move the ball against the conference’s top-ranked defense, scoring one TD after an interception and another against second-stringers with the game decided.

The Cardinal outgained Oregon State 438 to 221 yards and dominated on both sides.

Hogan completed 18 of 28 passes for 277 yards. Stanford’s running-back-by committee approach racked up 151 yards rushing, including a 1-yard TD run by fullback Patrick Skov.

Mannion threw for 122 yards and was sacked six times. Oregon State had 12 yards rushing.

No. 15 Arizona State 59, Washington State 39

Anu Solomon threw five touchdown passes to help the Wildcats win in Spokane, Wash.

The freshman quarterback was 26 of 38 for 294 yards without an interception. Terris Jones-Grigsby added 107 yards rushing for Arizona (6-1, 3-1), which was coming off an off week after losing to USC.

Washington State (2-6, 1-4), also off last week, lost its third straight game.

Washington State’s Connor Halliday, the nation’s leading passer, completed 56 of 79 passes for 489 yards, with four touchdowns and two interceptions, and became the leading career passer in school history. Isiah Myers caught two touchdown passes for the Cougars.

Arizona scored 24 straight points in the first quarter, including two touchdowns by DaVonte Neal, to win for the fourth consecutive time in Martin Stadium. After Washington State went three-and-out on its first possession, Neal returned the punt 81 yards for a touchdown.
