Alex Rodriguez’s playing career is over. At least for this season.

“I want to put all this talk to rest about Alex playing for any team this season,” Rodriguez spokesman Ron Berkowitz said in a statement Monday.

“It’s not happening. Like he said Friday night, he is happy and he is going to take some time to relax and hang with his family and friends.”

The slugger played his last game for the New York Yankees on Friday and was released the next day in order to settle into an advisory role with the team. But speculation had already started on whether other teams would show any interest in A-Rod as a player and what he would do if they did.

It really ramped up on Sunday, when Miami Marlins President Mike Hill acknowledged that his team was discussing the possibility of reaching out to Rodriguez, who makes his home in Miami.

“We’re going to look at everything,” Hill said Sunday. “There has been information out there about his situation. I have no idea what his interest level is to continue playing. He has something set up to move into the Yankees front office; I don’t know where his head is on that.”

But now the Marlins — and everyone else — know.
