The San Diego Chargers’ standoff with holdout defensive end Joey Bosa is getting good.

Well, it’s not good for the Chargers or their fans, who probably aren’t going to see the team’s top pick of the 2016 draft on the field anytime soon.

And it’s not good for Bosa, who appears to have missed his opportunity to sign a contract for the Chargers’ best offer.

But for the rest of us, this statement — released Wednesday by the Chargers on the Bosa situation — might be just what we needed to get through the rest of the NFL preseason.

In the statement, the Chargers talk about how great their previous offers to Bosa have been and how the rookie’s representatives just turned down the team’s “best offer.”

So now it’s off the table.

“The offer that we extended was for Joey to contribute during all 16 games and beyond,” the team stated. “Joey’s ability to contribute for an entire rookie season has now been jeopardized by the valuable time he has missed with his coaches and his teammates. Since Joey will not report at this time, his ability to produce not just early in the season, but throughout the entire season, has been negatively impacted. As a result, we will restructure our offer since Joey will be unable to contribute for the full 16 game season without the adequate time on the practice field, in the classroom, and in preseason games.”

That’s pretty hardcore. And so is putting everything out there in a statement on the team’s website and Twitter feed.

Can’t wait to see what Bosa and his people come back with. Remember, this is a guy whose mom posted on Facebook earlier this summer, “Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day,” so you know it’s going to be good.
