WWE Survivor Series results: Goldberg destroys Brock Lesnar

Share

Most of the hype for this year’s WWE Survivor Series centered on a rematch 12 years in the making, with current WWE superstar Brock Lesnar taking on a coming-out-of-retirement Goldberg. They last faced each other in 2004, with Goldberg winning. I would say 90% of WWE fans assumed Lesnar would get the easy victory, since he is signed to a deal and Goldberg was back just for this one match. Wrong.

In a huge surprise, Goldberg won in 90 seconds.

Lesnar pushed Goldberg into the corner right after the bell rang, but Goldberg just smiled and shoved Lesnar down. When Lesnar got up, Goldberg hit him with the spear. Lesnar rolled on the mat trying to recover, and when he got up again, Goldberg hit him with another spear. He then picked him up, hit the jackhammer, and pinned Lesnar clean in the center of the ring. The fans in the arena couldn’t believe it.

What does this mean? Well, Goldberg must have signed some sort of contract with WWE. It’s unlikely they would let a guy not under contract defeat their biggest draw so cleanly. There must be a rematch on the books, probably in January for Royal Rumble.

Whatever the reason, WWE took a gamble and it seems to have worked. Expect some monster ratings for Monday Night Raw tomorrow.

In other matches on the show:

Swann pinned Daivari with a standing 450 splash.

Baron Corbin attacked Kalisto, interrupting a good match for a feud (Corbin vs. Kalisto) no one wants to see. Kendrick retains the title because of the DQ.

A.J. STYLES, DEAN AMBROSE, BRAY WYATT, RANDY ORTON and SHANE McMAHON defeated KEVIN OWENS, CHRIS JERICHO, ROMAN REIGNS, SETH ROLLINS and BRAUN STROWMAN

Strowman was eliminated when he was trying to get back in the ring to beat the 10 count. James Ellsworth grabbed his leg and prevented him from getting in the ring.

At one point, Ambrose turned on Styles and teamed up with his old Shield teammates for a power bomb on Styles. The crown went crazy for this.

The less said about Super Shane, the better.

The finish saw Reigns try to spear on Wyatt, but Orton shoved Wyatt out of the way and took the spear. Wyatt then pinned Reigns, leaving Wyatt and Orton as the sole survivors.

Good show overall, though watching a show for five hours is a big chunk of time taken out of your day.
