Boys’ basketball: Chino Hills holds off Long Beach Poly, 78-75

Chino Hills had to overcome the size advantage of Long Beach Poly and finally prevailed, 78-75, on Saturday night in the championship game of the Corona Centennial tournament.

LiAngelo Ball, the tournament MVP, had 28 points. Eli Scott had 21 points and LaMelo Ball 19. Zafir Williams led Poly with 19 points.

Fairfax won the Maranatha tournament championship with a 59-48 win over Muir. Ethan Anderson was named tournament MVP after earning 23 points.

Damien won the Sierra Vista tournament championship with a 97-80 win over Colonly. Cameron Shelton scored 39 points.

Brentwood won the Mira Costa tournament championship with a 68-45 win over West Torrance. Braelee Albert had 28 points and 13 rebounds. Charley Wadler made six threes and had 22 points.

Santa Ana Mater Dei won the Mission Viejo tournament championship with an 86-62 win over San Diego St. Augustine. Tourney co-MVPs Spencer Freedmand and Justice Sueing sparked the Monarchs. Freedman finished with 23 points and Sueing 21. Mater Dei is 6-0.

Corona Centennial defeated Orange Lutheran, 74-54.

Rancho Mirage (5-0) won its own tournament championship with a 92-61 win over Adelanto. Tournament MVP Charles Neal had 20 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists.

Bishop Montgomery won the Westchester tournament with a 78-64 win over the host Comets. Ethan Thompson scored 27 points.

Hart defeated Crespi, 48-45. Ben Kaufman had 21 points for Hart. Narbonne defeated Washington, 53-49.

Oxnard handed Westlake its first defeat, 63-47. Village Christian finished third in the Burbank tourney with a 55-49 overtime win over L.A. Roosevelt. Jalen Riley had 17 points and Javon Jones 15.

Viewpoint defeated Chatsworth, 64-62, in double overtime. Lorenzo Guerrero had the game-winning layup with six seconds left. Freshman Andrew Reyes had 21 points and made seven threes.

Rancho Cucamonga won the San Dimas tournament with a 59-54 win over Upland. Kelvin Wright was named tournament MVP after getting 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Holy Martyrs defeated San Marino, 50-49, in the championship game of the Providence tournament.

South Pasadena defeated Flintridge Prep, 61-50. Jake Althouse had 22 points for Flintridge.
