Neil Young to preview new album ‘Earth’ at L.A.’s Natural History Museum

Neil Young will appear alongside dinosaurs next week in Los Angeles -- and no, that’s not a reference to a Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young reunion.

The veteran singer-songwriter and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee will preside over a public preview of his new album, “Earth,” at L.A.’s Natural History Museum to focus on songs he’s written over the last half century about man’s relationship with the natural world.

“An Evening With Neil Young” is slated for May 6 at the museum as part of its First Fridays series of performances, and will present a full playback of the forthcoming album, which is scheduled for June 17 release.

“Earth” consists of performances from his 2015 tour with the Promise of the Real band that includes Willie Nelson’s sons Lukas and Micah Nelson.

The album features live performances supplemented with musical overdubs and recorded sounds of animals, insects, car horns and other effects.

“Ninety-eight uninterrupted minutes long, ‘Earth’ is a collection of 13 songs from throughout my life, songs I have written about living here on our planet together,” Young said in a statement. “Our animal kingdom is well represented in the audience as well, and the animals, insects, birds, and mammals actually take over the performances of the songs at times.”

Young will play the album through his Pono high-resolution audio playback system, the first time he has given a public session to preview a new recording.
