Los Angeles Opera will host a free simulcast of the first production of its 2015-16 season at Santa Monica Pier on Oct. 3.

The outdoor screening of the company’s double bill of “Gianni Schicchi,” starring Plácido Domingo, and “Pagliacci” will be captured live from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Though the screening is free, the company said advance tickets are recommended for entry to the event. Tickets can be obtained online or in-person at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. There is a $1 handling fee per online order, and each order has a limit of eight tickets.

L.A. Opera said advance tickets are recommended as the seating area is limited, but any leftover tickets will be available at the door with no added handling fee.

The Oct. 3 screening, which is part of the company’s ongoing Opera at the Beach series, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m. The company said guests should bring their own seating, which can be in the form of folding chairs or cushions. The screening is general admission and guests are advised to arrive early.

Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi” is being presented in a revival of Woody Allen’s 2008 staging for L.A. Opera. Domingo, the general director of L.A. Opera, is scheduled to star in the title role of the comic opera.

Domingo will later conduct the revival staging of Franco Zeffirelli’s production of “Pagliacci.”

The double bill production is set to run at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion from Sept. 12 to Oct. 3.

Last season, L.A. Opera kicked off its first outdoor simulcast with “La Traviata.” Funding for the digital project is coming largely from the county.
