Clintons pull Magic out of their hats

Bill Clinton typically generates a fair amount of his own star power as he promotes his wife's presidential hopes. But Tuesday in Iowa, the wattage surrounding him should grow even more intense -- he'll be joined on the trail by one of the most charismatic athletes of the last few decades, Magic Johnson.

The L.A. Laker great-turned-business magnate is slated to appear with the ex-president and sing the praises of Hillary Clinton at events in Waterloo and Davenport (not exactly Magic's usual haunts, but in politics, sacrifices must be made). It's part of this week's flood-the-zone strategy by the Clinton campaign: either the candidate or her surrogates will cover all of Iowa's 99 counties.

Some members of the Clinton troupe are high-powered, like the Bill/Magic duo; others are friends from Hillary's childhood days in Illinois.

The campaign schedule doesn't call for the Clintons to cross paths Tuesday, but we wouldn't be surprised if somehow they work something else (just to boost the storyline a bit).

hmmph. sounds to me like mrs. clinton has to pull out the folks on her team who actually have charisma and can be trusted (although with bill? no so much) in the eyes of everyday folk. why? because she can't close the deal herself since she's neither charismatic nor trustworthy. and her husband's coattails are starting to wear thin already ...

obama/biden '08!

I remember the thrill of Magic and Kareem beating the Celtics, and it will be just as thrilling when Clinton beats pompous Obama.

I don't think even Bill can win this thing for Hillary at this point unfortunately...

This is about feeling the heat. What is inevitable is the shake up in the Clinton family if Hillary does not win the nomination and the presidency. For, with All Gore racing in 8 years, she cannot afford a defeat. Plus the WH archives to be opened after the election might show who she really is.
The stakes are too high here.
This race is a do or break for this family.
It is not just about the presidency of this country.
If you fancy family mud dispatch coming in two years from now, cast your vote elsewhere!

Let's see how many Obamamaniac bloggers try to trash Magic Johnson when they've used Oprah and her celebrity to the max. Hillary Clinton has years of friendships and public service to call on- She's the real deal-not just a figment of political operative, David Axelrod's "authentic," "hopeful"-"yes we can" imagination. (You can check-he's used these words and message before-Deval Patrick, Governor of MA for a perfect example.) We need to get back to a reality based universe folks-this is serious.

PERFECT CANDIATE- WELL EXPERIENCE- GOOD FOR AMERICA- BILL CLITNON WAS PROVEN RIGHT NOW HIS WIFE HILLARY CLITNON IS GOOD AS WELL WITH THE HELP OF EHR HUSBAND WERE GOOD AMERICA AGAIN- GOD BLESS THE CLITNONS.

Hilary Clinton will win and that is obvious.
America loves Bill Clinton so much and he will win it for her.
Also, she is a woman and do you think America will pass up the chance to elect a woman to the White House?
She already has the womens vote which will win it alone.

Clinton's have a motive for everything they do. Still can't trust Mr & Mrs. Bill Clintoon.

I see another successful black athlete generating even more wattage in the campaign.

My fantasy election is Ron Paul vs. Barack Obama. To complete my fantasy draft selection for my opposing teams I choose my VP candidates.

Paul's VP should be J.C. Watts of Oklahoma. If a Texas Longhorn congressman can team up with an Oklahoma Sooner congressman, the lions will soon be laying down with lambs! World peace can't be far off.

Obama's VP should be Dennis Kucinich of Ohio. An Illinois Illini senator paired with an Ohio Buckeye congressman is like a friendship between cats and dogs! This further bodes well for world peace.

It is the Big 12 Conference versus the Big 10 Conference in the Presidential Championship Series (PCS).

Both teams are comprised of an articulate African American and a champion of the Constitution. Talent wise the teams are very evenly matched.

The Big 12 pair has the best quarterback, but the Big 10 have prettier cheerleaders.

Support for Big 12 pair comes from seven states. Support for the Big 10 tandem tallies eight states.

I give the edge to the team with the better quarterback, Paul and Watts.

Better get your ballots now. This is one election that is going to be SOLD OUT!

The polls will have to be open from 12 AM to 12 PM on election day, just like they had to open the infield at Pimlico for the match race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral to accomodate the record crowd.

Newsrooms will have to bring in cots and throat therapists to rest and recuperate the talking heads until the final returns are in and the election is decided. The MSM will continue post election analysis for months afterwards, even past the Inauguration.

Schools and workplaces will be empty as the citizens anxiously await the official results to be posted on the internet at the Drudge Report.

You know, CNN reported that Bill Clinton said "This is no time for a rookie" when he introduced Magic Johnson. Any of your careful readers who know NBA history care to comment on the irony there?

Of course, Barack Obama, 46, is no rookie, since he has been in continuous elected office since he was 35. (I blogged elsewhere that it was 31, but I stand corrected). Of course, James Madison was 27 when writing the Constitution, and Thomas Jefferson was 33 when declaring independence. Bobby Kennedy was 42 when he won the California primary. If ever there were a rookie, it was Bill Clinton, Governor at age 32, with two years as a law professor, and two years as Attorney General of Arkansas.
