Suspect found hanged in apparent suicide in Hollywood jail
The man had been arrested on suspicion of robbery and was found dead in his cell later that night, police say. The coroner’s office is investigating.
A 31-year-old man apparently hanged himself while in jail in Hollywood, and the Los Angeles County coroner’s office is investigating the death.
Donald McMasters was arrested on suspicion of robbery at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and was being held at the LAPD Hollywood Division jail. Staff members found his body at 10:45 p.m. while making routine cell checks, the Los Angeles Police Department said Monday in a statement.
Police did not use force during the arrest or detention, according to the statement.
Police investigators said they believe the death was a suicide and have turned the case over to the coroner’s office, said Officer April Harding. Coroner’s investigators did not return calls or e-mail this morning.
