'American Idol': Paula Abdul's awkward moment

Did anyone else hear Paula call Syesha,Brooke on last night's episode of American Idol 4-29-2008 after Syesha had sang her last song? Besides my husband and myself?We still have it recorded on our DVR.

She totally called Syesha "Brooke".

I've heard previous comments on the show such as "since she was perfect in rehearsal" (Andrew Lloyd Webber, I believe). This leads me to believe that the judges have had previews of the songs before the show goes live. In that respect, I'm sure Paula messed up simply because she may have heard Jason perform both songs and had already began to form her opinion and simply forgot where she was in the show as Ryan indicated their comments would be made after the performers finished both songs.

The show is rigged and she's a liar. Idol is like watching wrestling (which is only watched once) only more boring. Joke of a show.

I think it only fair that the judges get to hear the performers when there is no audience. How can they hear them properly with all the girls screaming and whatever other noise is going on. I think if it was rigged as much as people think it is our downunder friend would still be there and brooke and syesha would have been gone a long time ago!one more thing if the american public would actually make this about the singing and not the popularity,then the outcomes would be so different.

Put Paula back in her pill bottle or booze bottle, whichever she is using. She is a Dufus!

Paula rules! So, she made a mistake, she's human. The three of them are great judges! You got Randy who is just like your everyday Joe. You have Paula who is like having a friend as a judge. And then you have Simon, Mr.Tell-it-like-it-is. The three of them compliment each other so well. I can not think of any three other people I would prefer to see as judges.

You can please some of the people some of the time ....... My My My you'd think noone had ever heard of LIVE tv... Things happen people..So she predicted Jasons next performance.. I thought she was Very Very accurate with her review... Do you think she has the lottery numbers? Who really cares if she was drunk high or just plain silly?? I am absolutely sure she is silly (like we all are) even without the cameras (all the way to the bank) We ALL did and still do watch her ( Brooke is leaving as I type) She is not an embarrasment and if someone is addicted enough to be embarrased for her ???? Margret,get a grip and wake up. People make mistakes but that was a huge one. Any normal person watching it would question what she said and how everyone scrambled to cover it up. She doesn't have the best track record. Its not being ignorant, just being real.

The show does not ever list the number of actual of votes per each contestant.

The producers have already picked the winner which was a total disappointment from last years winner. Who was last years winner? You never hear of any of last years top five. Their ratings are falling so they have to retain some viewers.

Paula...Keep the pills and booze in check! These young people look up to you even though you cant keep the songs they sing or there names "stright". Your eyes so red all the time with that log lost look! And please do us all a favor and wear a dress that keeps your "girlfriends" where they should be. There are young girls who look up to you should be teaching them how to dress with some class!

Paula is absurd. And why don't she and Randy let Simon make his comments. He does not interrupt when they are speaking. As soon as he makes a comment they jump in to disagree. They are sorely lacking in manners.

Hayes you are absolutely rediculous!!!! Get a gripe. Everyone critical of Paula must be PERFECT. If you knew anything about Paula and actually researched her you would know that all the drug and alcohol crap is totally FALSE. Paula has never even been seen in bars. (And you know as well as I if she was such a party animal the paparazzi would ge having a field day) Just like they did with Britney Spears. So I suggest to all of the gossip freaks out there....Unless you know it to FACT zip your lip. You will be a much happier person.:)

People who are being critical of Paula are 100% right, she is clearly on some type of drug almost every week. She did not make an honest mistake, she made a mistake due to being high, which is not acceptable. She needs to go.

You know,everyone was a bit rattled by the unusual setup yesterday. It happens. i don't suppose it occurs to any of you geniuses that the judges hear the contestants rehearsing all day long and so Paula may simply have forgotten she wasn't supposed to critique both of Jason's songs since she had heard both of them.

They aren't judging the rehearsal , they are judging the performance from that night. She's an idiot. She can't form a complete sentence, it's just a few fragments of gibberish, then dead air for a while then more gibberish. She serves no purpose. She dances like a retard. She's worthless. Thank you.

It was a mistake made easier to commit since Paula is obviously drunk or on something. I cannot forget the fact that this is her job for which she gets paid MILLIONS and she has to bluster so many times (this is already season 7!). How hard is it to (at least try your best) listen to contestants and give coherent comments, scripted or otherwise? She is not working manually for 8 or more hours like most other people nor is she researching for the next medical/scientific miracle for crying out loud!

I don't think the show is rigged but I think they are promoting David A. When the 5 of them sung the song together on elimination show David A was in the middle the whole time. He was between Shyesha and Brook while David C. and Jason Castro were standing on the sofa.

I think the slip was not because the show is rigged but because Paula was under the influence of a substance. She seemed even more out of it than usual

I think the producers of idol should offer Paula some type of remedial Reading/English class. On a good night, when she's not pilled out she can’t even put together a complete sentence. Idol needs to get rid of her if they want to try and maintain a certain amount of dignity and respect. She is totally blowing it for Randy and Simon, who have a sense of professionalism.

Paula needs an intervention. Her obvious substance abuse problems are killing the show.

Sorry to say but it's time for Paula to go. Hey she's got a hit song anyway. Get rid of her. Perfect replacement? Who else but Britney Spears to revive her stalled career, prove she's sane and rebuild her fan base. This could be the perfect thing to put Brit back on top.

Paula, please step down with any dignity that remains and pass the gauntlet to someone more deserving to judge others.... we can't even understand you, put us out of our misery and "give back" to the fans!

I'm sure Paula appreciates the support of those defending her. And, yes, to err is to be human. But to critique a song she hadn't even yet heard is more than just a mistake. Previous to her, Randy had no problem assessing the ONE song he had heard. Was Paula even listening to what he had to say? Her remarks usually consist of drivel, such as "You are being so true to yourself." I'm curious how that enlightens a contestant to how a song was performed. This is not meant as an attack on her, but she is no more than comic relief.

Paula is allowed to make mistakes just like the rest of us, however she is in good company in simon and randy. This makes her even more awkward, and reminds everyone that her opinion is pointless. Great, all the contestants have something going good for them, but if she could marry the good and a nice tidbit of helpful criticism, i wouldn't cringe everytime she talks. She is so rocky, a little fluidity would go a long way.

Idol really needs to evaluate the situation, the ratings are great, however this year has lacked the quality of last season, I know I speak for several people when Idol gives back felt pushed, rushed and agressive, then you have the quality Tuesday nites show, what ever was going that was in very poor taste what happen with Paula, it made it seem like the judges have it mapped put who they are going to steer the audience toward negatively, they should sincerely watch the show back and see from a spectators stand point. Step up Simon Fuller, you guys are slipping.

Before accusing Paula of substance abuse, people should keep in mind that she is in debilitating pain 24/7 - check out her history people. She has some some serious medical issues to deal with. I give her huge points for not letting her health stop her from living an active and fulfilled life. As for the complainers, you seem pretty shallow if you have to score points on someone with no clue as to what the facts are.

I saw OPRAH, a reliable source, go behind the scenes of American Idol. Simon said that before the show goes live sometimes they’ll watch the contestants’ rehearsals the day of the show. Which I don’t think affects the show because there wouldn’t be much of a difference in the performances. Having said that, it’s very possible that Paula had seen Jason perform both of his songs and got confused during the LIVE show. So what if she called one contestant by the other one’s name; I call my son by my dog’s name and my dog by my son’s name all the time. And for those of you who swear the show is rigged, I want you to know that it’s viewers like you that keep up the ratings. I love it… keep watching. And if you all worried about our stupid president and his senseless speeches as much as you worry about Paula and her comments, America would be a better place.
