Investigation continues into fatal crash of Christopher Laurie in Corona

Authorities are trying to determine how fast Laurie, the son of the pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, was driving when he hit a Caltrans truck on the Riverside Freeway.

Investigators were still trying to determine this morning how fast Christopher Laurie, son of mega-church pastor Greg Laurie, was driving when he hit a Caltrans truck and died Thursday in Riverside County.

Laurie, 33, of Huntington Beach, was driving “at a high rate of speed” in the carpool lane of the eastbound Riverside Freeway in Corona when his station wagon collided with a Caltrans tractor, the California Highway Patrol said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved and no one else was injured, authorities said.

Laurie had been art director for the past three years at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, the 15,000-member evangelical Christian church where his father rose to national prominence.

According to a memorial website created by the church, Laurie is survived by his wife, Brittany, and infant daughter, Stella. His wife is expecting another daughter in November.

An e-mail sent out by the church asked the faithful to “Please pray for Pastor Greg and the Laurie family.”

Memorial plans will be posted at www.harvest.org.
